HDR Images

HDR Images – combining several images into 1 image

I recently have been experimenting with HDR or High Dynamic Range images. In simple terms HDR images are a combination of images put together into 1 image to more accurately represent the range of intensity levels found in a real scene. Ever taken an image in the middle of the day where the subject you are shooting comes out perfect but the sky is just to over exposed? If you took another image with the exposure set for the sky with HDR techniques you could merge the 2 images to get 1 image where both the sky and your subject are correctly exposed. On most cameras you can set your camera to take 3 images at 3 different exposure settings (normal, higher and lower) automatically.

On a canon 7d simply go to  - menu – 2nd menu – expo.com./AEB and turn the front dial to set the 2 other exposures at how ever many stops you want them…

Tip – Baby Photography

I got this piece of advice from a friend of mine who is a very experienced portrait photographer.

He told me to always make sure you are really paying attention to a baby’s hands and feet. When photographing newborns you can be so carried away trying to snap that little smile on bub’s face that you can forget about two very important and distinctive features of a baby… their hands and feet! While obviously the face is extremely important make sure you get in those cute hands and feet and try and position them to make the shot even better!
